The latest edition of Coronatio Quadrans has officially landed, and this time, it’s not just another quarterly release. It’s their very first Special Edition, and it’s blooming just in time for the Vernal Equinox.

This quarter, the editorial team has gathered a series of thought-provoking papers exploring one of the most elusive and evocative ideas in all of philosophy, theology, and symbolic tradition:The Nature of the Supreme Being AKA The Great Architect of the Universes.

You’ll find reflections from mathematicians, physicists, historians, mystics, and mischief-makers, each offering their own lens on the ineffable. Among them is my own humble contribution:

“The Ever-Shifting Face of the Divine. Or Why Humanity Keeps Rebooting the Supreme Being in Its Own Image.”

And yes, before you ask, all the usual delights are still here: reviews, competitions, commentary, and the occasional eyebrow-raising footnote.

So if you’re feeling cosmically curious, ceremonially inclined, or just in need of a good Equinoctial read, grab yourself a copy. You might just find the Architect staring back at you… with a wink.

The latest issue of Coronatio Quadrans (Issue #8 – Winter Solstice 2025) just hit the news-stand (And by the news-strand, I of course mean my inbox), so why not do and try and get yourself a copy for some interesting Christmas time reading.

Once again, I have an article in this edition “The Persecution of French Freemasons In The Second World War”. I picked out the topic around about November 11th, thinking it was a relevant topic for the time of year.

Who would have thought that just a few short weeks later it would be even more relevant from the recent announcements from the Met Police, regarding the need for Freemasons to register themselves. What is next, being forced to wear red triangles?

One part of the publication is “Question from the Master” This is where the Lodge’s Worshipful Master asks a esoteric or masonic question to the Lodge Mentor who will answer it in an article in the next edition. After the Mentor answers the question, the “Question” is thrown open to all, and anyone can try and answer it themselves anonymously. The CQ Editors will read all the submissions and pick the best which gets published in CQ.

The Question in the last edition of CQ was “To what extent are Masonic rituals Theurgic Rites?” The question intrigued me, so I decided to enter the competition again. I won, and my prize again was to write a paper on a topic of my own choosing.

The topic I selected was “Ye Sons of the Widow” which is my attempt to answer the question “why do Freemasons get called the Sons of the Widow or Widows sons”

I first asked myself this question when I needed to wrote a short paper as part of the LOLS paper writing challenge during Lockdown.

The CQ Editors will read all the submissions and pick the best which gets published in CQ.

The Question in CQ Vol 6 was “To what extent are Masonic rituals Theurgic Rites?“. Just before the Magazine was due to be released the Editors mentioned to me that there had been no entries for this edditions question. So to make sure thay had at least one paper to publish, I knocked up a response to the question.

It turns out they had a few last minute entries, I guess the Editors moaning no one had responded, encouraged multiple people to actually submit something.

So, I won.

“What did you win?” you ask, (yes I heard you. I have explained in an old blog post, I can hear you when you speak out loud while reading this site).

Well my prize is that I get to write an article on any topic of my choice, and it will get published in the next edition of CQ.

ANYTHING!

So now I need to think of what I would like to write about.

​This evening I attended Mold Royal Arch Chapter at the Mold Masonic Hall, to give a talk.

The Chapter’s Scribe Ezra had reached out to contact me from the North Wales Association of Masonic Studies Lecture List, to see if I would be available to come along to their meeting to give a talk. I asked if they had anything in particular that they would like a talk on, and I was informed they wanted “The Missing Word on the Plate of Gold”. I always enjoy visiting Mold Lodge, and since I had never visited Mold Chapter I jumped at the Change to go and give them a talk.

It was a very enjoyable evening, and all the Companions seemed to enjoy the talk.  I even bumped into an old NWAMS speaker who was before my time, and we got talking about the association, and talks we had given. It was interesting to see how the association had changed over the years.

The Question in the last edition of CQ was “What is the Significance of Portals in Freemasonry?” The question intrigued me,so I decided to throw my hat into the ring and anonymously answer the question. To my shock my entry actually won, and my prize was to write a paper on a topic of my own choosing.

The topic I selected was “21st Century Alchemy – Alchemy in the Digital Age” which is my attempt to answer the question “Who are the modern-day alchemists?”

I first asked myself this question when I needed to wrote a short paper to present upon my going into the chair of Clwyd College. So I decided to expand on this question and turn it into an article for CQ.

Who am I?

This is a deep and complicated question, and one I ask myself almost as often as other people ask me “Who are you?”. Normally in these situations I simply answer “I am Me!” which while being technically a correct answer, does not actually answer the question. 

This time my normal answer is not good enough. I have been informed by “The Editors” of Coronatio Quadrans that along with submitting my paper for their next edition, I must also supply a brief “bio” so that the readers of the magazine can find out who I am.

This had the affect of both crushing my ego because how can they not know who I am? Don’t they know who I am? I am IMPORTANT! It also had the issue of me now needing to write a simple bio. Now I know you dear reader are thinking that can not be much of an issue, after all I have had a personal website since the very early 90s, I am all over the place and many sites need you to put a simple bio in. 

Well you are correct, but again “The Editors” would not allow me to put any of my normal ones on. I asked AI who I was, and it came up with lots of information about me, some of which I did not know. I do now have to write three of the books it claimed I have written because the topics sounded interesting.

I procrastinated for weeks, until I finally settled down to write something that was not too rubbish, and this is what I came up with.

Wayne is a polymath who was born at a very early age and, quite impressively, has not died yet-something he considers to be a notable achievement. He joined Llannerch Lodge in 2006 and has been deeply involved in Freemasonry ever since. Wayne is a member of Wrexhamian Lodge, the Maesgwyn Lodge of Installed Masters, and the Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge of North Wales.

In 2011, Wayne became the Master of Llannerch Lodge and has spent eleven of the ensuring thirteen years in one chair or another. He is the Secretary of the Maesgwyn Lodge of Installed Masters, and Bishop Wilkins College SRIA.

His commitment to Masonry in North Wales is extensive. He was a founding member of the Widows Sons North Wales chapter, served as the Provincial Webmaster for five years, and has been the Assistant Provincial Mentor since 2021. Additionally, Wayne is an active member of the North Wales Association of Masonic Study and been giving talks across several provinces since 2017.

Wayne is also a fervent supporter of the Blood Bikes Wales charity, dedicating his time and effort to this vital cause.

Think of the power. I can write about anything and it will automatically be published and circulated to all the people who read CQ. Due to this power, I decided to do the only responsible and sensible thing I could. I asked Twitter (I will never call it X) to give me the topic of my article.

I of course said yes, since we should all be getting a daily advancement in Masonic Knowledge. I asked if they had anything in particular that they would like a talk on, and I was informed it was my choice.

I considered multiple options for a topic, before discussing it with the Sunday Evening Beer club, and finally settling for “The Missing Word on the Plate of Gold”.

The talk was about what used to be on the plate of gold, and the meaning and symbolism behind it all, and when it changed to what we have today, and more importantly, why it had to change.
