The latest edition of Coronatio Quadrans has officially landed, and this time, it’s not just another quarterly release. It’s their very first Special Edition, and it’s blooming just in time for the Vernal Equinox.

This quarter, the editorial team has gathered a series of thought-provoking papers exploring one of the most elusive and evocative ideas in all of philosophy, theology, and symbolic tradition:The Nature of the Supreme Being AKA The Great Architect of the Universes.

You’ll find reflections from mathematicians, physicists, historians, mystics, and mischief-makers, each offering their own lens on the ineffable. Among them is my own humble contribution:

“The Ever-Shifting Face of the Divine. Or Why Humanity Keeps Rebooting the Supreme Being in Its Own Image.”

And yes, before you ask, all the usual delights are still here: reviews, competitions, commentary, and the occasional eyebrow-raising footnote.

So if you’re feeling cosmically curious, ceremonially inclined, or just in need of a good Equinoctial read, grab yourself a copy. You might just find the Architect staring back at you… with a wink.

The latest issue of Coronatio Quadrans (Issue #8 – Winter Solstice 2025) just hit the news-stand (And by the news-strand, I of course mean my inbox), so why not do and try and get yourself a copy for some interesting Christmas time reading.

Once again, I have an article in this edition “The Persecution of French Freemasons In The Second World War”. I picked out the topic around about November 11th, thinking it was a relevant topic for the time of year.

Who would have thought that just a few short weeks later it would be even more relevant from the recent announcements from the Met Police, regarding the need for Freemasons to register themselves. What is next, being forced to wear red triangles?

After the Mentor answers the question, the “Question” is thrown open to all, and anyone can try and answer it themselves anonymously. The CQ Editors will read all the submissions and pick the best which gets published in CQ.

The Question in the last edition of CQ was “To what extent are Masonic rituals Theurgic Rites?” The question intrigued me, so I decided to enter the competition again. I won, and my prize again was to write a paper on a topic of my own choosing.

The topic I selected was “Ye Sons of the Widow” which is my attempt to answer the question “why do Freemasons get called the Sons of the Widow or Widows sons”

I first asked myself this question when I needed to wrote a short paper as part of the LOLS paper writing challenge during Lockdown.

The Question in CQ Vol 6 was “To what extent are Masonic rituals Theurgic Rites?“. Just before the Magazine was due to be released the Editors mentioned to me that there had been no entries for this edditions question. So to make sure thay had at least one paper to publish, I knocked up a response to the question.

It turns out they had a few last minute entries, I guess the Editors moaning no one had responded, encouraged multiple people to actually submit something.

So, I won.

“What did you win?” you ask, (yes I heard you. I have explained in an old blog post, I can hear you when you speak out loud while reading this site).

Well my prize is that I get to write an article on any topic of my choice, and it will get published in the next edition of CQ.

To my shock my entry actually won, and my prize was to write a paper on a topic of my own choosing.

The topic I selected was “21st Century Alchemy – Alchemy in the Digital Age” which is my attempt to answer the question “Who are the modern-day alchemists?”

I first asked myself this question when I needed to wrote a short paper to present upon my going into the chair of Clwyd College. So I decided to expand on this question and turn it into an article for CQ.

Think of the power. I can write about anything and it will automatically be published and circulated to all the people who read CQ. Due to this power, I decided to do the only responsible and sensible thing I could. I asked Twitter (I will never call it X) to give me the topic of my article.

Widows Sons

The Widows Sons are quite simply a motorcycle-riding club. We are a non-brand specific riding Association so no matter what brand of motorcycle you ride, so long as you are a Master Mason in good standing you are welcome as a member.

We also have associate membership open to non-riding Masons. We are an internationally based group of independent Masons who have joined together to simply share the thrill of riding with other members of our fraternity.

We are not a 1% club. We are just a social riding club, which happens to have set one of its membership requirements to include being a Master Mason in good standing.

I have had an article published in the Square Masonic Magazine.

Pip the editor asked me to do a piece on the Widows Sons Masonic Association to mark their 15th anniversary (in the UK) for the current (June) issue of The Square Magazine.

And I can never say no to a Lady, so I put pen to paper (Which sounds so much better than finger to keyboard) and wrote her an article.

Look at me crossing off entries on the old Bucket List.

I had a very small article published in the MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) Magazine “The Road” Issue #48. The article is on the Combat Stress Charity 3 day Bike tour of Wales we ran this year.

For those of you unaware, we organised a 3 day circuit of Wales on motorcycles in aid of the charity Combat Stress. Basically it was a no-brainer. Get a large group of people who love Motorcycles, ride around Wales stopping off at various places, and having a few drinks overnight. Then get those people to gather sponsorship, and to pay a fee to come along, and you end up raising thousands for charity.

Ride for Combat Stress

On the 3rd May 2013 a group of bikers from all over the UK met up in Connah’s Quay, North Wales for a three day sponsored tour of Wales for the benefit of the military charity Combat Stress.

While the event was organised by Freemasons who are bikers, it ‘was open to all, and about 40 bikes made the run,

The tour started off from the Masonic Lodge at Connah’s Quay where they were waved off by Lord and Lady Barry Jones.

The Bikers followed the coastline of North Wales, with a quick stop over in Anglesey, before continuing down the coast to Aberystwyth where they spent the night, also throwing an impromptu live music concert in the nearest pub to where they were staying.

The second day saw them continuing along the coast of Wales, visiting Swansea and Cardiff where they met Falklands veteran Simon Weston. Then it was on to Brecon where they stopped for the second night, before heading north through Wales on the final leg of their tour, ending up where they started in Connah’s Quay, after a trip of 550 miles spread over three Days.

Between sponsorship, Lodge donations and the end of tour entertainment evening, over £15,500 was raised all of which went to Combat Stress since everyone taking part paid for their own petrol, food, and accommodation.

Combat Stress is the leading UK charity specialising in the care of veterans’ mental health ‘They are currently supporting just over 5,000 ex- Service men and women. This includes 637 who served in Iraq and 284 who served in Afghanistan.
